Investigator Responsibility

NIH Guidelines (Section IV-B-7)

The Principal Investigator is responsible for full compliance with the NIH Guidelines in the conduct of research involving recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, including ensuring that reporting requirements are fulfilled.  The Principal Investigator is accountable for any reporting lapses.

The IBC has consequently developed an IBC Policy definition of Investigator, to help researchers determine whether they need to apply for IBC approval.  See the IBC Policy definition of Investigator.

Mentor Agreement: non-faculty may be eligible to apply for individual IBC approval with a completed agreement.
